Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! I hope that your day is bright and cheery. Hope that you're absolutely "hoppy" and that you have a lot of fun.

Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won't stay there.  ~Clarence W. Hall

The joyful news that He is risen does not change the contemporary world.  Still before us lie work, discipline, sacrifice.  But the fact of Easter gives us the spiritual power to do the work, accept the discipline, and make the sacrifice.  ~Henry Knox Sherrill

Easter tells us that life is to be interpreted not simply in terms of things but in terms of ideals.  ~Charles M. Crowe

I lied on my Weight Watchers list.  I put down that I had 3 eggs... but they were Cadbury chocolate eggs.  ~Caroline Rhea

People Presentation and Misconceptions

When it comes to animation there's a lot of things that have changed over the years. In earlier animations, be it movies or shorts, there were often a lot of stereotypes evident. Not always good ones, but they weren't really done to be malicious. Examples of this can be seen in many things. But the one that I figure most of you would be able to recognize are found in Disney films. I know that this is something that many of you have likely thought about on your own. But  humor me just the same.

We have two clips here, one from Peter Pan (1953) , and the other from Pocahontas(1995). You're looking at a 42 year gap of time between the two. But the drastic change in the way they portray Native Americans is noteworthy. You also see evident in the clips, that there was a large difference in the way society was in general. In the 1950's Cowboy and Indian westerns were very popular. Often times with the Indians being 'used' as the bad guys. In the 90's we see that there is an understanding that people are people regardless of what they look like.

The thing to see here is that at one time people believed that people were different just because of how they looked or what their culture was. Which, yes things like that do mean that we are different but it doesn't mean that we are whole different beings. But yes, there are many things evident in the animations that show how people saw others. RATHER not necessarily how they saw others, but how they could have people exaggerated in ways that were comical. These aren't faults, but they do show the way that progress has been made.

All in all they're both well done animated films. (And everyone knows that Peter Pan is one of my favorites). But the point is that there are many things that can be seen as very telling of the time that they were made. These are things that we should take into consideration when we are looking at our own histories. The things that we do and like often change over time as our understandings of the world around us changes. This leaves us in an ever changing world, where progress is both made and lost as people learn facts or choose to be ignorant to them

Videos Concerning The Wizard of Oz

So today, I wanted to share a few different videos that I've enjoyed lately, now that the new Wizard of Oz movie has been in theaters. One of which is the trailer for the movie. Remember, that this all came from a series of books, which at times are referred to as one of the  greatest American fairy tales. You can read the books at Literature.org if you follow this link. The Wizard Of Oz. Remember that there are multiple books written about Oz, which detail the experiences of various characters and events in oz. You should definitely look into reading them if you've enjoyed any of the movies or musicals, also take a look into the 'Wicked' books, detailing the life of the ~Wicked~ Witch.

Comparing Commercials

So one of the things that I have noticed since getting here is that there are some commercials that are the same. State Farm, Binder & Binder, and some of the restaurant commercials are the same. But one thing that I have really noticed is that while in Buffalo there are a good number of commercials about cruises and trips to go to warm places. Here in San Diego there are a lot of commercials showing snowy places, skiing, and snowboarding.

Just thought I'd let you know about that observance. (I still don't miss the snow though, just so you know.)

Just a Day Out

Today was a bit of a change of pace.  We went out and did a little bit of nothing. Just spent some time looking at stuff that we don't need and can't afford. But it was kind of nice to see Polke laughing and looking at stuff. Sometimes it seems like he isn't really interested in much more than his video game anymore. But he had some fun out of the house.

We went to the Tierrasanta park and had lunch. We packed it here at home. I was going to take some pictures at the park, but there wasn't really much there to take pictures of. It was more like the park at the end of O'Connell Ave(pardon if my spelling is off, am a bit tired atm), With some sports fields and a playground and things. What makes it a bit different than the park in Buffalo is the fact that they had two or three buildings there for indoor activities.

One building housed some basketball courts. The other one was a pool building. I saw another building there that looked like a large gazebo, But I'm not sure what that one was for. It's a nice looking facility to be honest, but when I was thinking about going to the park for a picnic, this kind of location wasn't exactly what I had in mind. It was nice to watch some parents playing catch and kick ball with their kids, and there were a number of people playing baseball and basketball.

One thing that I saw while we were there that was interesting may seem a bit silly when I mention it, but I thought it was interesting so I took a picture to show you.

Yeah, You're not seeing things. It's a soda machine in a cage. I don't think I've ever seen one of these before. Polke says that it's a common practice here. If it is, it's not as common in the area's that we've been going to as he thinks. But that's alright.

The other thing I saw today that I thought was AMAZING was at the Lego store in fashion valley mall. Remember how I mentioned we looked at things we didn't need or afford? Well, this was SUPER cool, and we definitely don't need it. But we both thought it looked like a lot of fun to maybe make. So I took a picture just because we could.

Mhm! It's R2D2 made out of Lego's. XD. I thought it was interesting, so I took a picture of it. They had a few other neat Star Wars kits completed and on display, but this is the only one that really interested me. If the store hadn't been so full of kids we might have gone a bit further in and looked at some of the other things that they had there. But because it was as full as it was at the time we only stayed in the front of the store.

Anyway, that's a little about the way our day out went. Thanks for reading. Remember, we miss you and you can always drop either of us an email or a message in the comment section here on the blog. As an added bonus for the day here's a music video for a song that I've found enjoyable, and kind of expresses how I feel about some things lately.

Ghost Story (SPOILERS)

Ok, so I just finished reading a book that I've wanted to read for a while now. And I'm SO DAMNED ANGRY! To be honest, I haven't read a Dresden Files book that I don't like. But this one has me enraged, frustrated and just miffed. I mean... this book had me sitting here in tears for cripes sake.

Ghost Story
Jim Butcher
496 pages

First of all, I suppose I should give you a slight reaction about the book in general, a little blurb so to speak. If you're unfamiliar with The Dresden Files Series, you're really missing out on some great reads. This one is no different, but I do recommend that you start by reading the series from the beginning or by reading the Side Jobs short story anthology. The book itself has a great storyline, and an interesting plot.

As a reader, I found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen. It's always nice to be able to feel that excited about a book. As usual the characters are given enough personality, that we can either like them or hate them. Not to mention, there are enough hints at back story that even if it is the first book that you're reading from the series, you can understand how and why certain characters interact with each other the way that they do.

Personally I find the complexity of the relationships and situations between the various characters to be fascinating, as well as believable. There are situations and characters that we can relate to. The basic story plot revolves around unraveling a mystery to find out who killed Harry Dresden , and why. Mysteries are always a good read, as they challenge us to figure out what happened.

WARNING: THE REST OF THIS BLOG POST IS FULL OF SPOILERS!!!

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET DON'T READ ANY FURTHER!

Ok, so the basis of this book is that Harry Dresden is DEAD! Yeah, that's what my reaction was too. How and why was he dead (I think I must have skipped a book in the series because there's some stuff that was mentioned that I must have missed in general.) NOT TO MENTION how frustrated I was trying to figure out why a ghost could use magic at all.

AND ALL FOR WHAT? YEAH only to find out that he's not dead at all >.<. I sat here crying my fool head off reading and feeling so sad thinking that he was done for, only to find out that NUUUUUUUUUUU he isna dead at all and that there is more. I hate when they do that! I mean why make us start preparing for the "END" of something wonderful, if you're only teasing us? It's not fair.

GRRRRR I hate when books do that. Mess with your emotions by making you think someone important you've come to look up to is gone. Yeah... Ok... anyway.... yeah >.> End rant ~_~

Love The Way You Lie (Cover) & Put Your Hearts Up

So, this artist has kind of been growing on me. I really like the way her voice sounds. Some of you may recognize  her from a TV show that is on the Disney channel. Others of you may have just rolled your eyes at the fact that I issued a comment that way. >.>. But that's alright, she does have a very good voice. Her cover of 'Love The Way You Lie' is wonderful. But I just adore her song 'Put Your Hearts up', so today is a double video day ^_^.

Going To The Bay!

Ok so Here is the video that I took today when we went to the bay. It may not be the best, But it is better than nothing! AND In the future I will hopefully have better videos. So I do apologize for these ones being a bit odd. But at least you can see some of what we have around here ^_^. MISS YA!

Ships by the Bay (and other stuff)

New Baby in San Diego

Cayden! Look! A Rhino! I remember how disappointed you were when the Rhino wasn't out when we went to the zoo. So when I heard about the baby rhino being born at the Zoo it made me think of you. He's just a baby but he is REALLY big compared to what we think babies are. He's not like a puppy or a kitten, he's BIG. XD. Anyway The video let's you see him sticking his tongue out. Apparently it's a quirk he has that is part of his personality.  I miss you guys ~_~.

I hear you've been rollerblading. I was never very good at that. I preferred roller skates (IMO they're safer.) I can't believe that Saint Patrick's day is coming up next weekend already! I hope that someone takes lots of pictures for me. I want to see how the float turns out. And I feel bad missing out on all the fun ~_~.

I know I haven't had a lot of luck calling. The time difference makes it hard to match up talk times. especially since I don't have a lot of time during the day to talk on the phone ~_~. Sorry guys ~_~. On the bright side, I've got a job. That's not something to complain about. I just hope that I can do ok at it. I'd hate to do badly.

Anyway... since I just seem to be babbling... I may as well post this up... hope to talk to ya soon. I MISS YOU! Send me a postcard XD

This artist offers a free download of 3 of her songs currently on her website. So if you like the song that you see here, definitely go check it out!

Jupiter!

A friend of mine shared this picture of Jupiter that he took with one of his telescopes. What I find interesting about it is the way the planet has striations similar to some of the various stone types that we see. To be honest off the top of my head I don't know why that is, but he mentioned something about the planet having constant storms and things that revolve around the planet.

So, I decided to look into this out of curiosity. Mind you this is just some babbling on the most part because I wanted to be able to share SOMETHING with you. So this is what am sharing today. Yeahp... That IS a picture of Jupiter ^_^.

Work, Weather, and Video Game

Alright ^_^ So today we're going to have a quick update about the activities and daily events that Have been going on for me. To be honest, I don't really have too much to tell you about. I'm going to tell you a little bit about work, the weather, and maybe my video game. Which might not sound like anything you want to know about, but it ~IS~ what I have to talk about.

So I did manage to get hired into a job last week. So far it isn't bad. It's got alright hours, so I can't complain too much there. Am currently full time and right now am doing 11:30 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Friday, with a morning shift on Saturday from 9 am until 1  or 2 pm. I dealt with a of of rejection during my shifts the other day, but it's a job. When I had my interview I had to take a drug test, and it was different. They gave me this spongy thing on the end of a stick, and I had to hold it on my tongue and get it all squishy and gross. Let me tell you, the after taste was totally gross XD. Anyway, what I'm getting at is with the work schedule, I might not have as many things posted up here for you guys. Am sorry ~_~. But I am going to try my best still to make sure that I don't let too much time lapse between posts.

The weather has been varied. Some days it's cool, but yesterday it was very warm. I think they said it was 80 degrees out yesterday. I'm still not used to it being so warm. I wonder how long it will take for me to become accustomed to it. I'm not sure, I just hope that at some point soon I get more comfortable with it. I'm not saying I miss the cold (I don't!), but I'm not used to being so warm either.

In my video game the march edition of the gacha arcade has opened up. But atm I can't go. But it's still fun to watch everyone trading things in the group. I do plan to go and see about dragging a few things home with me, but for now meh. It's not a necessity and I'm not too worried about it.

Anyway, hopefully I will have more to tell you about later this week. I'm still getting into the swing of things, so hopefully I get some sort of schedule lined up so that I have something to tell you about. Until then, am going to leave you with a cute song. It might not be extremely nice, but it always makes me smile. And that's what matters. I'll drop you a post again soon!
