Off The Shelf : A Lycan's Mate

Short reads are interesting. They often give you a taste of the writers style. By getting that initial idea about how someone writes, it can give a reader a nice jumping point when it comes to deciding what they want to read when it comes to longer pieces. I found this short read randomly as I was browsing the books on amazon.

Why was this story interesting enough for me to mention it? Well for one thing, the stories title implies that it would be a romance. But it's more of a political piece. It offers the reader a glimpse into the way the authors lycan world works. You're treated to a gathering where a pack is selecting a new Alpha.

The main character is a strong female alpha named Jurisa. I liked this fact. Strong female characters often hit a soft spot in me, appealing to my own imagination. But what I liked most about Jurisa is that she's making choices, not for herself, but for the good of her pack. In this story Jurisa is running to select a new male alpha for the pack. But I don't want to spoil it for you, so I won't go any further.

In my opinion this short story is appropriate for older readers. It's not intended for children. It's not sexual, and it is not offensive either. It's very well written, clear, and flows well. A very good taste of this writers style, and enjoyable too.

You know, I don't think I tell you enough about what I read. You've been getting posts about the movies I've been watching, but nothing about what I've Been reading. Shame on me! Anyways, currently I've been reading various items on my kindle. Yes, I really do love my kindle. There are a lot of things available to read on it.

If you're looking for a light, slightly bloodthirsty read, this is for you. The short books follow the exploits of Kate, on her adventures while trying to escape Mexico. The writing style is first person, which is rather enjoyable as the story unfolds. The further in you read, the more 'facts' you are told, and the more interesting it gets.

What can you expect though? A lot of running, drug lords, explosions, and a few shoot outs. Oh, and did I mention money? Stolen drug money to be exact. Not too shabby really. But definitely not a romantic story at all. So if you're into more fluffy light romance reads, this isn't going to give you the happy fuzzies you're after.

Readers that I'd recommend this to are ages 15 and up. Mainly due to the rather adult content. It's not sexual. I just don't believe the contend is appropriate or to the taste of children.
