Find a Reason that You Matter

Some people live their whole lives in denial of the truth. Instead they choose to live in some beautiful mockery of reality. I find myself often on the other end of the spectrum. I’ve seen myself as a failure, a nobody fated to fade out of existence at the end of my life. Of late though I’ve been forced to realize that the me I see isn’t the same ‘me’ everyone else sees.

Some may see me as a student, some as a brother or sister, others as just another face in the crowd; another person they’ll never talk to. It’s the people that have taken the time to say hello, that have smiled back, the ones that have cared helped me realize I’m not just another number. I matter.

Yes, I matter. It may sound boastful in a way when I say why. I matter because I can make a difference in someone else’s life; Even if I only meet them for a moment. But how is that relevant really?

I grew up in a large family, my brothers and I weren’t the most popular kids at school. We didn’t have cable, and still don’t. We had the internet for maybe a year at the house, then it was decided that we didn’t need it. It’s available at the library, plus it’s expensive. We learned that just because you want something doesn’t mean that you need it. Our parents worked very hard, and still do, to make sure that we’re good people.

We went to church, and volunteered in the community. Through our volunteer work we not only got to meet other people, but we were able to see how they lived. We got to see how much another person could appreciate what you could give them; Even though sometimes all that we could give them was time. Yet to some people that was worth more than any money or material good. Granted when I was younger that wasn’t exactly something I readily understood.

Now that I’m older I’ve realized that the person I’ve grown to be is strong. For you see, even in the darkest times when my very soul has ached and I couldn’t see a single reason that I shouldn’t give up, there was a nagging voice within me. The little nagging voice told me that if I cheated and cut myself out of reality I’d prove myself to be a hypocrite. Who wants to be proved a hypocrite? I certainly don’t.

A good friend of mine once told me that he was going to kill himself. When he told me the reason why, I couldn’t believe it. He was convinced that no one cared about him and that his life didn’t matter. The very idea seemed strange yet familiar to me because I’ve felt the same way. But the idea that no one cared about him, I couldn’t believe because he mattered to me.

So when I proceeded to try and tempt him to change his mind, I also programmed myself. I told him about what I’ve learned, and what I believe to be true about everyone that has ever lived or died.

I believe that everyone’s life is like a spider web that’s superimposed over another’s web when they meet. No matter how long the meeting, there is a point where the two webs connect. This means that not only those two lives are connected; all of the lives connected to the newly merged webs are also connected. Which basically means that every life there is or has been is connected in some way. This is then balanced by some greater power so as to attempt and aid each of us in our struggle to become the best we might be.

So it is this belief that influences me when I do a kindness to another, or when I hold my tongue when someone hurts me. Because what I do not only influences what will happen to me, it affects what will happen to other people that I know and that the other person in the interaction knows.

Being different in this way, makes it hard sometimes to understand the way that other people act. Which also means sometimes my reactions aren’t certain because there’s a hesitation and question about what may happen. I simply want to do as much good as I can before my number is finally pulled and I’m removed from the game. I might have dark times on occasion when I wonder why I’m alive. But they fade eventually, as the smile comes from aiding another. Kindness, like laughter, is a powerful medicine. It can help us each stay happier, and keep us from distress. Since we should only ever expect from another person what we are willing to offer to them.

So if you’re willing to offer your whole self to the world, the whole world is yours. Just don’t try to claim it. It’s far better to enjoy it as it is, and to help it become better for the present and future since the past can’t be changed. So I’ll strive to make the future better, and hope that I’ll stay strong and make others strong too.

A mountains top is only as stable as its base. Without the base the top would crumble. Through life we are each the mountains top and base. We are the mountain top in our life, and people we know help to keep us from crumbling, or should. Thus we should do the same for them. Please remember to care about your fellow humans, for if you don’t…who knows what may happen.

Book Shelf Revisited: Steampunk/Romance/Murder/Mystery

Ok yeah that's a mouthful. I know it sounds kind of odd too. But all those are valid descriptions of what the book I'm blogging today is about. I decided I wanted to start looking into a variety of types of books, and explore outside my "zone" of horror and fantasy.

Viridis
Calista Taylor
330 pages

"A Steampunk Romance"

Interestingly this book starts off describing a mans dead body, and the place where the detective presumes he had spent his last hours before his death. It may not be a new idea, but it's nice to have the period style descriptions. Not only that her presentation of t he period, and the steampunk technology is lovely.

Viridis, in the book, is not just the name of a club, It's also the name of a non-alcoholic herbal concoction. It's described at least twice, and it's affects are also described thoroughly. It's the wonderful detail throughout the whole piece though that helps guide the readers imagination to set up the vibrant colorful character filled environment.

The language is beautiful, helping to make the characters believable and life like. A polished piece as a whole, its pacing varies. The content though keeps the reader interested, giving them a reason to continue reading. You learn about the difference between classes, and how it's causing rifts in society. It's almost a social commentary piece, what with the ideas of tinkerers and lords, and them not seeing eye to eye. Oh and the government issues as well! Secret service type stuff, it's great!

The end is very unsuspecting, and as a spoiler alert, you may not want to continue past here.
I was intrigued that the author used a gay couple as a focal point. At least, the alternative lifestyle turned out to be the reasoning. The matter of accepting people for who they are is what was the driving part of the whole book.

So, my end thought is that this is a wonderful read for a mature audience. Yes there is sex. Yes there is violence. But the details, the full world is fantastic.

Well, we're going to get back on the ball now I think ^_^ Hope you read something great this weekend!

Music Monday : Can You Repeat That

The world seems to be falling apart around our ears. It's a little bit scary to be honest. But there's nothing to be done about it, other than try to take it day by day.

People are worried about getting sick. They're worried about losing their jobs. They're worried about what not working will mean when it comes to their homes. And there aren't really any answers. Not any good ones anyway.

I'm just trying to take it on a day by day basis, and try to stay as calm as possible.

Things sound impossible. Like it can't be true. But people really are losing their marbles.

But repeat after me : This too shall pass. It will end and things will go back to some version of normal again. The real question though, is what will that normal look like for most of us?

4 Non Blondes : What's Up

Alanis Morissette : Ironic

Dolly Parton : 9 to 5

Indeep : Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

Kina : Girl from the Gutter

I Think People are Good

People in general mean well when they do most things. Sometimes what they do is for the wrong reasons, but I feel that most people do things with the best of intentions in mind.

I believe just because someone makes a mistake doesn’t mean that we should turn our back on them. I also believe that if they’re misguided enough to continue repeating said mistake, they need better guidance. Which means that I wish they wouldn’t bother asking me anymore because it hurts when they keep asking for more….sometimes there’s just no more to give.

I believe also that some people will say they love you just so that they can have the high of someone saying that they love them. I believe that most people have no idea what it is that they’re committing themselves to when they use that statement.

People, on the mass scale, are a large group of separate individuals that make one thing; a population. This population is never going to truly see eye to eye on all fronts. But they always desire the same liberties and respect.

I believe people are good. I believe that people can change. I believe that even when they do something wrong it is still with the best of intentions and there is always a good thing that comes with a bad thing. Whether it’s the fact that people band together in compassionate support, or if they dissolve a false union, there is good in each action, no matter how superficial it may seem.

People just can’t see eye to eye because no one can truly understand anyone else. Even in a one on one relationship, there is no way at all that they can really understand each other.

So I guess my opinion in a round about way is that people need to be more open minded and patient. They need to try and look at things from a more multifaceted viewpoint, they need to try and understand the fact that they can’t understand everything, and they need to trust people as well as care for them, because deep down everyone is good.

People are inherently good.

What's on Screen? Additions to the Film Collection

So I know this may seem like a silly thing to say but I am excited to have some new additions to my movie collection. The content is rather varied, and I try to make sure that I have something to watch with almost anyone who might be spending time with me. Or even to suit any mood I may end up in.

So without further ado, here are the new additions.

The Gaelic King : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5072852/

Necessary Evil Super-Villains of DC Comics : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3033478/

Blazing Saddles : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/

Winx Club The Original Season 1, Volume 1: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421482/

The Conjuring : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1457767/

The Conjuring 2 : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3065204/

Blazing Saddles is a comedy that we have seen before. So It was more just something that I am excited to have added to the library. It's not a film that would likely have made it through the filming process in the current industry. But that's part of what makes it unique. It's definitely a time capsule of the times.

Now the two Conjuring movies I am interested in seeing how my S.O. takes them. I saw the first one, and enjoyed it well enough to want to add it to my library. The second one, I have yet to watch though, so I am not sure how it will be. But it should be good either way. Because it is always fun to watch a decently budgeted horror movie.

The Villains film, seems to be a documentary. My Dad got it for me and I am looking forward to watching it when I have a chance.  Christopher Lee is the narrator, which I find to be promising. They also have a variety of different people checking in with their interpretations or perspectives about characters, so that should be very fun too.

Winx Club, I'm not sure about. But I am looking forward to watching the animation. Partially because I have seen various fan art and dolls made for the series. So now I will be able to satisfy my curiosity.

The Gaelic King, I'm not entirely sure what to think of. So we may get back to you about it after we get a chance to watch it.

Did you get any new movies lately? Are you watching a show that you would recommend? We're always looking forward to seeing what's interesting on the screen.

Music Monday : What day is it?

I honestly have trouble knowing what day of the week it actually is sometimes. On days like that I can't help but feel a bit lost in time, because what am I actually getting done? Is it going to matter tomorrow?

Not sure. But apparently today is Tuesday but let's treat it as a Monday. But am only picking 3 songs. I'm not really focused currently. Sorry.

Nine Inch Nails : Closer

Marilyn Manson : Rock is Dead

Korn : Freak On A Leash
