Slaughter Your World

Wow! I never knew that Looking For Group had any animated shorts, let alone an animated feature! And spoofing Disney songs? Score! Can't argue with the enjoyment this short animation brought me. Richard is an awesome character.

Quaggans!

So there are these adorable little creatures in Guild Wars 2, and they are called Quaggans. I don't play this game >.> But I've seen Polke A Dot playing and these are adorable! But he says you're not actually allowed to fight as a quaggan which makes me kind of sad. Because they're so cute, and like...yeah, who doesn't want to be adorable and dangerous?

he argument usually goes something like this:
1 : I wanna be a quaggan!
2 : no...just no.
1 : But then I could play with you.
2 : Quaggans don't fight. NO, just no.

And I am still not playing GW2 but they're so adorable. After watching some videos though I do understand a little bit more about these adorable fictional creatures. I still think they are superbly adorable. On the bright side it seems that there are a lot of people that agree with that point of view.

In GW2 there's even a  quaggan backpack. I kind of want one in real life. I wonder if anyone would make one.

What's on the screen? : Shrek The Musical

Sometimes something sounds so peculiar you can't help but want to see what they did. There's so man movies and books out there that companies try to turn into musicals because of their popularity. Not all of the results are memorable. In fact many of them don't make it past the starting gate. In this case we're looking at one that many would think to be improbable.

This is an AMAZING musical. I wasn't expecting it to turn out the way that it did. And if you don't want a spoiler...well.. don't watch the movie Shrek first. They did an amazing job conveying the most memorable scenes and statements from the animated film into the musical. The costuming and set design is both creative and intriguing without being over the top. And come on, who doesn't like an ogre now and then?

In regards to the video clip; I think that it is the best song in the WHOLE musical. But that's because I like the message that it conveys. So definitely give it a  chance if you get the time. It's a kid friendly musical, even though some of the content is a bit questionable. But if you have seen the cartoon already you should be expecting that. Besides, it's got so many enjoyable layers you won't be able to stop with watching it just once.

Change is an amazing thing, and all I have to say right now is that I'm feeling very happy. I'm excited, hopeful and on my way somewhere. But I can't exactly tell you all about it yet. Let's just say there's a place in this world for everyone. It's just a matter of figuring out where your place is.

Isn't today a Holiday?

They say you can't truly love someone if you're unable to laugh with them. In a way they're right. But someone else can't really love you, if you can't love yourself. Share your passions. Explore your possibilities. Don't be afraid of losing. Take every day as a gift. Revel in the happiness, joy and love you find. It may not be perfect, it may not last forever.

But who decides how long forever is?
                                                    Not You. Not Me.

So live, love, and laugh like it's the last day of forever.

Happy Valentines Day.

What's On The Screen? : Unicorn City

Okay, so I know a lot of you may not be into gaming. It's not everyone's cup of tea. But there are some of us that really do enjoy gaming in various forms. We've watched a variety of movies about gaming. But this one was new to me and I was looking for something light to watch, just to give me something to be distracted by.

Yeah... so I didn't actually know what I was getting into when I hit play on this movie. Not a bad thing in this case. It's a fun movie with some theme points and comedy scenes similar to ones seen in other gamer themed movies. (If you haven't seen The Gamers, you should because it's amazing! But this has nothing to do with the current post it's a side note.) But unlike most of them, this movie looks at the idea of trying to bring the game into the real world, rather than trying to disappear into the fantasy world. Which is presented in an interesting manner.

The costumes are nice, and believable. The acting, while sometimes a bit cheesy or over the  top, isn't really all that offensive. Some of the situations are ones that various types of gamers can understand. There's romance, rivalry, and now and then stupidity. Oh! And a taser, can't forget that! On the whole though, while not necessarily a movie that will appeal to everyone, it is lighthearted and a nice change from the big name romantic comedies or the films with overly computer generated situations. Give it a shot if you get a chance, maybe it's not for you, but...maybe it is.

*Is babbling a bit, sorry. It's been a long week already*

Airships?

People have long dreamed of being able to fly. Through the centuries a variety of ways to take to the air have become reality. But one type that has continually been depicted in films and art is that of an airship. What makes these things so interesting, and what do they mean to us today? Are they possible? And of course there is the question posed above: could there be Airship Pirates?

Zeppelins were a real thing, and still are, as are blimps. But neither of these are really as complex as the airships that are described in films and literature. Blimps are still use on occasion,

The idea of airships has been embraced by pop culture. As steampunk and fantasy ideas have become more accepted we have seen the inclusion of their elements in many films. For example in the film The Three Musketeers released in 2011, there is a running theme of fantastic steampunk type contraptions.  One being an airship based (supposedly) on a design made by Da Vinci. The photo below shows a pair of airships, mid battle.

Airships from The Three Musketeers circa 2011

Another film that shows some elaborate types of airships is Castle in the Sky. But there are a number of instances of this type of interesting technology mentioned in films and literature. While the uses of the devices vary depending on the subject matter, the usage is generally about the same. A flying ship. These seem roomier than airplanes, and afford the passengers space to move. Also offering amazing views while traveling through the vast skies.

Abney Park : Airship Pirates

.
Even Disney has gotten in on the idea of airships. In their space bound version of Treasure Island (called Treasure Planet released in 2002), we see a variety of different spaceships that could pass for airships. Not only that the style in general speaks to those interested in steampunk as an aesthetic. Plus there's pirates, and everyone knows how cool pirates are.

Treasure Planet featured a number of Airships
Which leads us to our question. Could there be airship pirates? Well, in my opinion there is no reason if there were airships there couldn't be. After all, there's been pirates on the seas for ages, and the skies are merely a vast counterpart similar to the ocean. So my thought is, why not?

What do you think? Do you think the interest in these fantastical flying devices is interesting? Or do you favor planes over the more romantic notion of flying ships?
