Music Monday : F

This week is F. To be honest I haven't been feeling well, so it is very sad. Because not only am I feeling unwell, there are so many sad things going on in the world, that it's discouraging. So please, I hope you're having a better 2018 than I am.

New word of the week.

Whats in the Oven? My Boyfriends Lunches

We've recently decided that it may be cost effective for me to make my boyfriend his lunches for the week at work. We decided that I'll make him 4 lunches a week, which we purchased some reusable fake tupperware at dollar tree for. They end up completely full more or less. The total amount of food being about 5 cups per lunch.

What did we put into his lunch? We ended up with an interesting lunch. He had one container that contained a hard boiled egg, some cheese cubes, carrot sticks and slices of green pepper. The other container had a in house concoction I am calling Garlic (bread) Noodles, and Polish sausage coins.

Since this was the first week we've done this, we weren't sure how it was going to go. But we did find out, that he feels healthier and fuller with his new lunches. He had been eating the premade type things, like  a banquet pot pie, or a frozen dinner. Which in comparison, doesn't contain as much food. So I think part of it is that he actually is fuller because there is more food. The only adjustment he has decided we should do is add more polish sausage.

What we bought:
Package of Baby Carrots (99 cents at Save a Lot)
One Green Pepper (not quite a pound, so it cost 66 Cents at Save a Lot)
Dozen Eggs ($1.89 at Save a Lot)
Polish Sausage ($1 at Dollar Tree)

What I already had at home:
Shredded Cheese (originally from Dollar tree for when we had tacos)
Butter (Save a Lot)
Noodles (unsure)
Garlic Powder (unsure)

Next time I will make sure to take pictures of his lunch, so that you can have an actual visual of what he's eating.

Oh Oh! I can tell you about the garlic (bread) noodles!

Garlic (bread) noodles do not contain any bread. They simple taste and smell like garlic bread when you've finished preparing them. To be honest it was a spur of the moment recipe, but I have a feeling we'll be making it again.

Boil 2 cups of noodles of choice with a splash of oil and salt. (I used 2 cups of macaroni noodles.)

Drain noodles when they are done cooking.

Add 2 teaspoons of butter, and garlic powder to taste.

Stir in 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Voila! Garlic (bread) Noodles.

Makes 4 decent sized servings.

Music Monday : E

The letter E. A vowel. The second one in the challenge.  I think there are only 5 unless you count y as a vowel. So we're moving along pretty good right? At least we're staying on track for now. E was actually a harder word to pick a learn a new word for. But we managed somehow.

Epitrope

E`pit´ro`pe

n. 1. (Rhet.) A figure by which permission is either seriously or ironically granted to someone, to do what he proposes to do; e. g., "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still."

That one is a bit odd I guess. But it reminds me of parables and proverbs. Have a magical week and let us know if you have used any of the words.

P.S. the first song is a great one for Valentine's Day, just saying.

Off the Shelf: The Jolly Postman

I was super-excited to be unpacking after moving and find this children's classic amongst my things, with all of the parts miraculously intact, considering this book is from the '80s and has been in my family since... at least early 1990s, through at least a dozen moves to different houses in three different states.

The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters
Janet & Allan Ahlberg
32 pages

This book is a little different spin on fairy tales, with the postman delivering letters to such fairy tale classics as the three bears, the big bad wolf, Goldilocks, Cinderella, and the wicked witch.  At each step, there is something within each letter that can be pulled out and read, letting the audience actually see what kind of mail each is being sent.  The main book is done in rhyme, with illustrations, and each of the pieces of mail are unique to each recipient.

While definitely a children's book, I would say this is aimed mainly at elementary students, though I even enjoyed a nostalgic read-through as an adult, and some of the pieces of mail would need explaining.  The original tags on the book say for kindergarten and up, but I think that depends on the child involved... many won't have the attention span for some of the "mail" at that young of an age, and if you don't keep a close watch, the mail is sure to end up disappearing, as the envelopes are attached to the pages, but the contents are removable.

That being said, this book is good for any gender child.  The main story is easily read to the younger crowd, and the older ones will enjoy the mail, which includes advertisements and even legal documents.  I personally could see my 5-10 year old nephews getting excited about the story and some of the mail, but the aforementioned legal ones would probably bore them to tears or confuse them, but elementary kids probably make the best audience with child-at-heart adults behind those.  I will admit that I totally am keeping this book, and got excited to find out there are at least two more books, one a Christmas one that I am committed to buying.

Music Monday : D

D actually proved to be a bit of a challenge for me. It's very hard to make up your mind sometimes when trying to pick only five artists form a pool to represent a letter. But we did it! So we can continue the alphabet challenge, although I really feel as though it's going to get harder towards the end of the alphabet, but we don't have to worry about that yet.

This weeks letter word is dendrochronology, which is the study of tree rings. Pretty neat word right? dendrochronology.

Anyway have a magical week, and let us know if you have a reason to use the word of the week.
