I know I haven't been posting as much as I would like to. I could try to come up with some excuse. Or I could be honest and tell a long story about everything that's been going on. But what's the point? Everyone is having a hard time right now, and comparing troubles isn't going to help anyone.
But we've made it through this month just about. That's something to celebrate right? All we can do is hope for good things to come. I hope you're all safe and that you're able to stay that way.
It's another Monday. The days roll past mostly without events changing. I don't even want to talk about it anymore. There's nothing to talk about. I don't even really have inspiration to come up with a positive statement or thought this morning.
All we can do is keep going. That's what we need to do. Keep going.
I hope you're safe. I hope you're healthy. I hope you'll be with me when this is all said and done.
The weeks seem to be going in a haze. It's hard to know what the day really is anymore. It's absolutely crazy. Are we going back to work soon? Are we stuck home for more time? Are we going to have anything better than the void we have been trapped in for... weeks now? Does anyone really know?
I don't know. I'm sorry I don't have any answers for the questions I ask at times. But we're all still floating along, and that's all we can do right now. Keep going. Just because we don't know doesn't mean we have to stop.
It's hard. I know it's been slow, things aren't necessarily perfect anywhere right now. But everyday is a chance to exist. If all we do is that, we can get through it. We just need to hold on. I know it is hard. It is really, really hard.
But hold on just the same. It will end eventually. We'l make it through to the other side, we just have to make it past this first. Take each day one at a time. It's a little easier than projecting and hoping that the furthest point out is going to be when things go back to the usual. I know it isn't something people want to hear, but it won't go back to the way it was. Not entirely at least. So we're going to need to find a new normal. Which is going to take time.
I'm still feeling nostalgic. So I'm still playing miscellaneous music that brings a smile to my face, and helps break up the silence of the day. There's too much silence when you're alone. As crazy as that sounds, being alone is way too quiet for me. It lets my mind wander to places it shouldn't. SO here's to holding on and getting past this period of time.
It's been interesting, this isolation I've gotten almost accustomed to. It's not enjoyable to be honest, but I understand why it's being done. I've started poking around in my music collection and remembering how happy music makes me. I know I haven't been staying on the ball like I wish I could. This year... has been absolutely insane in so many ways.
So as I have been exploring my collection I have found songs that I've forgotten how much I enjoyed. So I am going to share some of those today. Some I may have shared in the past, but this is more a day to post things that have been bringing me nostalgia and happiness.
The world seems to be falling apart around our ears. It's a little bit scary to be honest. But there's nothing to be done about it, other than try to take it day by day.
People are worried about getting sick. They're worried about losing their jobs. They're worried about what not working will mean when it comes to their homes. And there aren't really any answers. Not any good ones anyway.
I'm just trying to take it on a day by day basis, and try to stay as calm as possible.
Things sound impossible. Like it can't be true. But people really are losing their marbles.
But repeat after me : This too shall pass. It will end and things will go back to some version of normal again. The real question though, is what will that normal look like for most of us?
I'm having a little bit of fun with this weeks selections. Mainly I wanted to pick some music that would inspire a little bit of happiness in the week. Last week was actually quite rough. So let's look into the future and think about what is available in the future. Spring is coming, and so is summer!
Not that it will be a lot of vacation fun, but it should be interesting just the same. So let's have a good week and maybe there will be something fabulous happening later this week.
I honestly have trouble knowing what day of the week it actually is sometimes. On days like that I can't help but feel a bit lost in time, because what am I actually getting done? Is it going to matter tomorrow?
Not sure. But apparently today is Tuesday but let's treat it as a Monday. But am only picking 3 songs. I'm not really focused currently. Sorry.
One of the things I did this weekend was get my movies sorted and put away into one place. Mostly? Which lead me to discover that I have a few duplicates, but considering the volume and variety of movies in my collection, that isn't too bad.
Which leads me to wondering if I should make a list of the cd's that I have in my collection also. But I don't see why that would be as much of a problem. Cd's get scratched more often than my dvd's do.
In any case, I thought today it would be fun to pick songs that appear on movie soundtracks. So here's hoping you have a great week, and once I get the music list sorted out and cleaned up I will be replacing the currently active movie list here with the updated list. Alphabetized and everything, because my S.O. thinks it would be easier to reference that way.
2020 has been crazy so far, From a number of stand points. Personally as well as not. But the first month is finally over. There's not really anything good that happened in January other than my vacation. Which I know I promised to share more of, I just haven't had time to sit down and write. My bad.
So today, I'm going to have to be open minded. But that means today, the music choices should be interesting(though I hope they usually are). Because I should be positive. Let's be positive! February can be better than January. I know we are about 10 days in. So let's try to fight through the late winter/early spring blues. But... there is a shadow yet lingering. But it will end. Everything does eventually.
I know it has been a while since I have posted on a regular schedule. But I am hoping that for the time being things have been straightened out. That being said you can expect to see a variety of posts coming up throughout the year covering a variety of topics.
I decided one thing I would like to do is pull some of the book "reviews" I had posted on an old blog out, and re-share them. Most of them were posted... around 7 or 8 years ago. So, there will be a bit of variance in the tone I guess. But I think it is interesting to think about what I was reading then in comparison to what I am reading now. So those will be under the header "Bookshelf revisited".
I am also going to be writing about the unexpected vacation I took last week in the coming days, so don't be surprised to see posts about locations outside of my home area.
But today is Monday, and Mondays are for music. So without further babbling, here is the playlist for the week. I pulled the song selections from the music I have been listening to at work. So while it may seem a bit erratic, it does have a reason.
After finishing the personally imposed alphabet challenge I am not really sure what to select as an inspiration for picking songs. I could go back to going by genre, or I could just pick it based on how I feel. But I don't know right now.
The holidays are coming and that has me a bit worried but hey, they'll end soon enough.
I know that of late we have been a bit wishy washy as far as posting on a regular basis. It's been a work in progress this year. I have to say that I am proud to have finished the alphabet challenge I gave myself. Even if it was a bit silly.
November is here though, and with that being said, Holidays are creeping closer. This is neither good nor bad. It is just a fact. But I don't know how I want to go about dealing with this information. Mainly because there isn't a lot to be said.
I don't have kids personally. So I don't have much to talk about when it comes to toys, or what not that may be important to many.
I guess I'm feeling a little bit blue.
But that's ok. Today is Monday, and technically I don't have work because it is a Holiday. But I'm going to put some time in doing other things.
The music for today was a bit hard to pick. I've sat here poking around in my brain and not really come up with a direction that I wanted to go in. So... yeah.
I was so close to having the alphabet finished in time to have a halloween special. But I guess we can't have everything we want.
On the bright side we have finally reached the letter Z, and I feel slightly accomplished. It might not mean anything to you, but to me, well It feels wonderful to have completed a self imposed challenge. Even if it is a bit of a silly one.
The word of the week is :
zymurgy : branch of chemistry dealing with brewing and distilling
Not sure where you will have a chance to use that word, but I chose it because of the Oktoberfest advertising I've seen all over.
Ok we've finally made it to Z! One of the song's I selected makes me think of Animal singing from the Muppets. But I hope You've enjoyed our alphabet challenge.
Golly I'm writing in circles tonight, I'm sorry. Just a bit tired.
Y is actually a really hard letter to find music for. Yes I'm back on the ball, almost. I'm trying at least. I know todays post is going to be going up a bit late. But that's going to happen now and then. And if you've been with is for a while you know that I almost always pop back up again. It just takes me a bit to re organize.
The word of the week is :
yenta : gossip or busybody
I know it may seem like a weird word. But with the way my week has gone so far (and it IS only Monday)I really think it is an appropriate word. Anyways, here's the music for the week, inspired by and brought to you by artists of the letter Y.
I hate to say it, but for my personal collection X is a rather slim letter. Maybe some of you know some bands starting with an X that I don't? Feel free to leave some recommendations if you feel so inclined. Because I had a hard time prising these gems out of my library.
The letter of the day as you have guessed by now is X. So let's see what the word of the week is.
Xenomania :inordinate attachment to foreign thing
I'm not sure if any of you will have a chance to use this word during your daily lives. But right now.. I feel like it is an interesting word to throw out there. I hope you have a magical week.
We've almost finished the alphabet! And If I stay on track, I may even get to do a special post for Halloween! Though, I could do one anyway and just... push back whatever letters I have neglected by then. But hey, who knows right?
Todays music selections are brought to you by the letter W, and the word wyrd. Please see the definition below.
wyrd :the personification of fate or destiny
An example of wyrd, would be the three fates. They often tell destinies or various futures, giving warnings or encouragement. This gets them referred to as the Wyrd Sisters in some stories.
There ya go, your word of the week, and how about our five song choices. I got to include one of my personal favorites this week, can you guess which one that is?
Today is another Monday, and we have almost reached the end of the alphabet challenge. I know that there were a few silent weeks where I didn't write at all, and I am sorry about that, but... I have had a lot going on I am hoping to have better solutions than dead air in the near future. But it all depends on what the doctors tell me. Yeah I know i sound like a broken record, but my health has finally been put on a...front burner so to speak. And I would really like to be feeling better sooner rather than later.
The letter of the week is V! It's an odd letter and was a little harder to find artists in my personal library that started with V. But I did manage it, and the word of the week is also a V. Of course.
Venery : pursuit of sexual gratification; hunting; pursuit of game
Well that is an odd word I suppose. But I thought it may be something of interest as with fall coming many people will be starting to go out hunting. Deer will be in season soon enough, and we'll have to watch for them on the road.
Here's hoping you have a great week and that there is something wonderful waiting for you at the end of it.
I'm so excited because the kids go back to school in our district this week. I'm so happy about this. It may not mean anything for most people, and technically because I personally don't have a child, it may seem weird. But it will be nice to go back to the evening schedule.
today's music choices are brought to you by the letter U. Which also means we need a word of he day that is fun and something that might be interesting to tell a child about.
So we have chosen a funny sounding word, uranoscopy.
uranoscopy :star-watching
I don't think I've met anyone who can say they don't enjoy star watching and gazing every now and then. After all the nights will be getting longer here in the northern hemisphere soon, so we will have crisp fall air, and hopefully clear skies to enjoy the stars.
Anyway here's some music choices to help you enjoy your week, brought to you by the letter U.
There has been a bit of a delay and break up on when I've been posting. I am sorry about that, but to be honest I am having trouble focusing on the screen of my laptop. Not that anyone is paying that much attention.
In any case, there are only 7 days left in the alphabet challenge I gave myself, and If I can manage to finish it before the end of this year I will be quite happy with myself.
But what is the word of the week?
tragomaschalia : smelly armpits
The word itself is kind of funny, and if it had managed to be issued earlier int he summer I bet many of us would have had a chance to use it out in the wild. But for now, let us be content with the idea that summer ends soon and the kids will be headed back into school soon. Yay?
