To be fair it feels like the number of big movie houses is narrowing. Disney is absorbign a ton of them, and now Netflix. It was a strange email to wake up to, even though I am sure it has been in the news somewhere. But to be honest, the last thing I really remember reading about changes to Netflix was that they were aquiring Sesame Street. I am attaching a copy of the email, more as a way to keep a documentation of the change. Similar to wanting to keep a note about some of the changes Disney did after pushing Disney plus vs physical sales.
I still purchase hard copy media, both music and film. So I find it frustrating to know it is goign to become even more difficult to get things that way.
We all have movies that we watch multiple times for a variety of reasons. Like comfort food they become familiar, letting us enjoy them on various levels. The 10th kingdom is like that for me.
This isn't a short movie. It was originally aired as a multi part miniseries on television. Which may lead some of you to think it would be a bit cheesy. Some parts are. But it is still something that I enjoy watching. I've seen it enough that I don't have to watch the screen to enjoy it. I have happy memories of watching it.
They go through a variety of fairy tale and nursery rhyme themed areas, that will bring happiness and laughter even to children based on the types of scenarios presented. And while some things seem a little dated now, it is still highly enjoyable.
Anyway, ja... not a lot to say. Just... wanted you to know I am trying. Still trying. Things are going back to normal soon...Maybe? I have another doctors appointment soon. So... I'll let you know.

Tale of Tales was earmarked as a movie that was trending on Netflix so I thought I would give it a try. I watched the whole thing. I have a few observations, but the biggest sentiment by the end of the movie was a sense of dissatisfaction.
I say this because I feel as if the film lacked closure. This may have been intentional to challenge the viewer to decide what should happen next. But I found it disappointing. You never find out what happens when the prince finds his mother missing, or what happens to the vain "queen". But maybe that was the point of the film? To leave us wondering and thinking about how the stories may have ended?
The costumes were absolutely gorgeous though. I can't even begin to express how excited I was as the film started off strongly with gorgeous costumes. In the image posted above you can get a slight preview of them, but they're absolutely fabulous. I am so very impressed by their costume designer. I would watch the movie again simply for the costumes. That should tell you a lot I think.
There were some points in the film that were a bit gruesome. But none of them were as bad as some of the things they show on tv nowadays. (Oh man, that makes me sound old.) But the way it's shown, and the way it's presented makes sense in the storyline.
Anyway, it's an alright movie. But I don't see how it earned trending status. But hey, it could have earned it because people were wondering the same thing. Why is this here?

I know it's been a while since we had a "What's on Screen?" post. This is partially because I haven't been able to stay focused or pay attention well enough to get more than 5-10 minutes into a show or film. But the past two nights I managed to find a way to keep focused.
By now I'm sure many of you know I am very fond of fantasy in various formats. So the fact that the show I binged was a fantastical romantic comedy should be no surprise. What may be a bit more of a surprise though is the fact that it was in Japanese. I watched it with the subtitles on, because I don't know Japanese myself. But I think this helped to keep my attention on the show.
Why do I say this? Because I was watching the screen to see the action, as well as watching to read the text to know what was being said. I also had audible cues fromt he soundtrack and characters that helped in comprehending what was going on. I guess it's not a huge surprise, I've been watching a few things over the past months in this manner.
Ah! But what did I like about "My Little Lover"? I enjoyed that it was cute, and didn't rely on sexualized humor. Things were very pg compared to television shows that are on currently.
I also loved the costumes. The person who made the doll costumes for Chiyomi paid close attention to how the dresses look in their miniature size in reality, and made sure that the dresses the actress wore were a match. I loved seeing the cute pieces they had her wear during the show.
Enjoyment of the series was also found in their use of fairytale ideas. They compared the situation to events that occured in various fairy tales. Frequently saying that the situation was similar to the legend of "the one inch princess". I currently don't have enough gumption to research and see if that's a real fairytale or one simply used for the story.
The show is based on a manga series that was written in serial form in the mid 1980's. This particular televised interpretation is the third one. I am unsure on if I will go out of my way to watch any of the earlier ones. But for now I am happy to have completed watching this one.
Would I watch this show again? Yes. I think I enjoyed it enough that if I was to be asked to watch it again I would. But I don't know if I want to watch this particular show alone again though. So I do recommend "My Little Lover" to those of you who may be interested in foreign film or tv. It's adorable, sweet, and charming. I really did enjoy it.
Let me be a little bit honest. I'm not really big on watching tv at home. In fact I like the quiet. But I've had company here for a bit and that's ALL they want to do is watch tv. So Netflix has actually been a big help in providing them entertainment, and also saving my sanity. Why do I say this? Because listening to the same movie or show over and over drives me crazy.
Netflix has a wide variety of shows currently that offer a variety of options to choose from. My father keeps picking shows with lots of blood and fighting, and my Mom, well she is stuck on The Ranch which my dad keeps complaining about. But there are more similarities than he realizes.
He keeps complaining about language in The Ranch, but it doesn't have fighting or blood and gore. He seems to think that swearing and murder and other miscellaneous not for kids activities are fine. My Mom is annoyed because he seems to have this double standard.

This is only listing the serial type shows they've been watching not the movies. I haven't really been watching them, but I've been listening to them argue about them. But unlike when they're at home or where Netflix is not, at least they're not repeating the same few episodes over and over and over. So I guess that's a positive thing about Netflix.
To be honest I'm really tired of listening to people argue.
Anyway, that's what they're watching around here. Now I'd give a more opinionated look at them, but to be honest I haven't been really watching along. It's hard to keep up with a story when they watch episodes when you're at work so you have no idea what's going on. But I can say that after the other three, The Ranch is a nice change.
It seems like yesterday I was writing about the Korean Drama Goblin, and how exciting I found it. To be honest, reality television has nothing to offer me, so I'm looking for alternate options. KDrama seems to be one of my chosen interests. My most recent one being Cinderella and Four Knights.
To be honest the title seems a bit misleading at first, but as the 16 episodes wrap up it all makes more sense. There are multiple storylines layered up to create a semi realistic plot line, with a number of facets to keep the watcher interested. The love triangles are a bit hard to see as realistic, but when you hold it up against the problems in reality television, this is a piece of cake to follow.
The music is wonderful also. The show is 16 episodes, with about an hour spent on each episode. So you can binge it and enjoy the music without coming to hate it for repetition sake. I also enjoy the facial expressions the actors have, and the different outfits worn throughout the series.
I'm not going to spoil it. I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed it. If you watch it let me know what you think.
